Japan cling on for victory!

There we go, Japan become the first Asian team to beat a South American side at a World Cup at the 18th attempt!

It was a contest shaped entirely by the third-minute red card dished out, rightly, to Sanchez.

Kagawa netted the penalty before Quintero's cute free kick pulled the scores level five minutes before half time.

Japan made most of the second half running, though, and were rewarded when Osako headed in the winner with 17 minutes remaining.

That's a huge win in a competitive group, with Senegal facing Poland next.

It's not happening

90+5' A minute left to pull something goal-shaped out of the hat.

Five minutes of added time

90+1' And Colombia are applying some late pressure. Can Japan handle it?

Rodriguez carded

87' That was a lousy late tackle on Haraguchi.

Colombia are running on empty here.

And now their third

86' Continuing the theme of departing goalscorers, Osako takes his leave as the clock runs down.

Shinji Okazaki comes on to grace a third World Cup as he reaches his 114th cap.

Second Japan change

80' Gaku Shibashaki trudges off, low-five-ing the incoming Hotaru Yamaguchi as he does so.

Ten minutes for Colombia to pull this out of the fire.

Oh Rodriguez!

79' Colombia have sparked into life and force successive corners, with Rodriguez denied only by a block from the flying Osako.

Goal Japan!

74' Osako!

Finally they earn some reward for their pressure since the break as the Bundesliga-based forward rises to head a corner kick past Ospina.

The corner came after their best move of the half as the late-arriving Sakai had his shot deflected behind at close quarters, following impressive hold-up play from the eventual marksman.

A sub apiece

71' Veteran Keisuke Honda replaces Kagawa, so both goalscorers have now left us.

For Colombia, Jose Izquierdo is hooked for Carlos Bacca.

Colombia are clinging on

69' And they can't get out of their own half for love nor money.

It's a big defensive effort which could come back to haunt them in the dying stages.
