St Christopher celebrates 'tenacious and resilient' A-level students on results day

Eight students at St Christopher School, Letchworth have received straight A* and A grades this year.

Across the school, 49 per cent of grades were A*-A, 72pc were A*-B and 85pc were A*-C.

Nat Baker, head of sixth, said her students have proven themselves to be kind, resilient and resourceful adults throughout their year 12 and 13 experience.

She said: "The tenacity and resilience our students have shown over the two years of their course are incredible and we are extremely proud of every single one of them.

"They are a brilliant group of people who are kind, resourceful, interested in the world around them and have an inner confidence that will see them go far.

"They are all a credit to St Chris and themselves.

"We wish them the best of luck in their next steps to university and beyond."

Headteacher Emma-Kate Henry said: "We are exceptionally proud of all of our students and their teachers who have overcome a challenging few years to achieve this excellent set of A-level results.

"Despite a national drop in top grades we are delighted that our students have bucked this trend and that as a school we have achieved similarly high grades to 2021, testament to our students and their teachers having worked exceptionally hard under often difficult circumstances."

One of the St Chris students has received a "coveted" Degree Apprenticeship in Environmental Science with the government's Environment Agency.

They added that other students are heading to a range of universities, including Bristol, Bath, Exeter, Newcastle, Royal Central School of Drama and Arts University Bournemouth.

Considering your next steps?

Year 13 leavers who performed better than expected - or who didn't receive the results they wanted - still have choices about their future and career.

Universities in Hertfordshire are urging students to consider Clearing if they want to pursue a career in higher education.

Airbus in Stevenage and Tesco in Welwyn Garden City are also championing their apprenticeship schemes - from engineering, to retail and finance.

This year's group has had to demonstrate incredible resilience and determination throughout the pandemic, with many of their lessons moving online at various points over the last two years.

They have successfully overcome all of these challenges and gained an impressive and well-earned set of exam results this summer at the academy, which is part of the Bedfordshire Schools Trust (BEST).

This year there were a number of individual success stories, with numerous A* and A grades, including Beth with four A* grades, who is off to study biomedical science at the University of Oxford, and Libby with two A*s and a Distinction*, who will be moving on to the University of Northampton to train to be a midwife.

As well as a strong performance at A-level, there was a similarly impressive set of results from the students studying BTEC awards this year. The high-performing subjects included applied science, business, engineering, health and social care, ICT, media and sport.

Multiple students achieved Distinctions including Bradley, who gained an impressive triple distinction.

Susie Hoad, Head of Year 13, said she was delighted to see Gianni achieve a fantastic set of results and wished him all the best in the future.

“I couldn’t be any prouder as a headteacher and I wish them all the luck in the world on the next stage of their journey.”
