Vincent Kompany plotting £50m summer signing from Premier League

Vincent Kompany is reportedly keen on a Premier League star this summer - a player which would set Bayern Munich back at least £50million.

Eight points clear at the top of the Bundesliga table, Bayern fans are satisfied with the performance of the new gaffer so far as they attempt to reclaim the league from Bayer Leverkusen.

Looking ahead to the summer though, the club have already reportedly eyed a new goalkeeper as per the Sunday Mirror - Brighton's Bart Verbruggen.

A player that would cost a minimum of £50million in order 'to tempt' the South Coast club into a sale, it's the second time that Kompany has gone in for the young prodigy.

The former Burnley gaffer identified the keeper as his no.1 goalkeeper target upon Premier League promotion and even in the Championship season, before he subsequently moved to Brighton instead.

Rúben Amorim says Harry Maguire deserves to play for England again

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has said Harry Maguire deserves to play for England again.

Speaking to press ahead of United's FA Cup fifth round clash with Fulham, Amorim claimed his defender, who has experienced a resurgence in form recently, deserves to be called up.

Amorim said: "If it’s enough is down to the national coach.

"I would be really happy for him, I think he deserves [it].

"He is a great guy, I think he needs to still improve because when you are a player you can improve every time and improve a lot of things.

"But I think his performances in the moment are quite good and you feel he is more a leader now that can help a national team, so I hope he is in the national team in the next games."

Thomas Tuchel will have to select his first England squad for the March international break soon.

The 31-year-old received two call-ups in 2024, one under Gareth Southgate last March and one under Lee Carsley in September.

Should he be called up, it would bound to be a massive confidence boost for Maguire who has had his ups and downs with the Red Devils in recent years.

The Reds are currently 14th in the Premier League table but Maguire has registered some good individual performances despite his team's struggles.

FA investigating homophobic chanting from Millwall fans towards Ben Chilwell

Crystal Palace's victory over Millwall in Saturday's FA Cup tie was marred by offensive chanting by a section of away fans at Selhurst Park.

After Jean-Philippe Mateta's horror head injury inflicted by a kung-fu kick challenge by goalkeeper Liam Roberts, some fans were heard chanting 'let him die'.

Meanwhile, Ben Chilwell, who completed his first 90 minutes for Palace since his loan move from Chelsea, was also on the receiving end of offensive chants.

Cries of 'Chelsea rent boy' were aimed at the 28-year-old and according to Mail Sport the Football Association is now investigating the chants.

However, the 'let him die' chanting aimed at Mateta will not be probed as it does not breach regulations.

Palace went on to win the tie 3-1 against the ten-man Lions side.

Mateta breaks silence after horror injury against Millwall

Crystal Palace's Jean-Philippe Mateta has broken his silence after suffering a horrific injury in his side's FA Cup clash with Millwall.

Mateta received treatment on the pitch for eight minutes after suffering a kung-fu kick challenge from Lions shot-stopper Liam Roberts who was sent off.

He was rushed to hospital as a minority of Millwall fans cruelly mocked the Eagles talisman.

The club later confirmed his injury required stitches.

He took to Instagram last night to thank fans for their concern and reassure them of his condition.

He said: "Thanks for all your kind messages. I'm doing well. I hope to be back very soon and stronger than ever.

"Well done, guys, for the great job today. I love you. JP."

Palace boss Oliver Glasner missed the challenge but was left sickened after watching a replay.

He said: "I couldn’t see it live. I didn't want to see it after the game.

"I don’t want to watch the injury. I watched it because I knew I had to talk about it.

"It was a very serious foul play. It’s tough to see. I don’t want to watch it again.

"Imagine it could have ended his career."
