Ruben Amorim ‘expected to be appointed’ as manager at Champions League club

A remarkable report from ESPN in Portugal has suggested that Ruben Amorim could soon be appointed to a managerial role with a major European club.

The 41-year-old has been without work now for some weeks, following the decision by Man United hierarchy to end his time as first team head coach at Old Trafford.

Since Amorim's departure, the Red Devils have embarked on their best run in form of the season so far, winning all four games under new caretaker manager Michael Carrick.

According to reports, Ruben Amorim is not expected to be out of work for too much longer, with Portuguese giants Benfica likely to offer him a role.

Amorim's potential move to Benfica would depend, first-of-all, on Jose Mourinho, who is expected to leave the club after the World Cup to become the manager of the Portuguese national side.

Should this take place, ESPN say Amorim would be chosen to take over at Benfica.

Per the ESPN report: "ESPN sources in Portugal expect Benfica coach Jose Mourinho to be offered the national team job when Roberto Martinez's contract expires after the World Cup and, if Mourinho does move into the international game, expect Amorim to return to management at Estadio da Luz."

Paul Scholes makes shock claim Man United should sign club captain from Big 6 rivals

Paul Scholes has surprisingly suggested that Man United should look at signing the club captain from one of the Red Devils' main Premier League rivals.

Scholes' former club have seen a major upturn in form over recent weeks.

Winning all four matches since the arrival of Michael Carrick as caretaker manager, and catapulting themselves back into the top four to re-establish themselves amongst the genuine favourites for Champions League qualification.

Despite the upturn in form, discussions are also underway about the summer transfer window, and how the club can rebuild their squad.

Reports over the weekend suggested that the Red Devils will consider a move for Newcastle's Sandro Tonali as a Casemiro replacement.

Aside from the Tonali option, Man United legend Paul Scholes thinks the club should sign Cristian Romero.

The suggestion comes days after Romero was sent off in Spurs' 1-0 loss to the Red Devils.

Speaking on The Good, The Bad and The Football podcast, Scholes said: “Do you know what? I love him. I love watching him play football.

“He’s p***ed off at Spurs, isn’t he? He doesn’t want to be there.

“He’s having a go at the crowd, he’s having a go at the board, I think his head has checked out a little bit.

“But I would love him at Manchester United. I just love his character.”

The Argentine World Cup winner has made a number of statements criticising club leadership over recent months , but is under contract at Spurs until 2029.

It remains to be seen if Spurs will be open to a sale, or of Man United make a move for the player.

Darwin Nunez set for sensational return to European football after 'offer accepted'

Former Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez looks set to make his return to European football, less than six months on from a big money move to Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal.

The Uruguayan striker became one of the most expensive Liverpool players in history when he joined the Reds for 75 million euros in 2022. Although Nunez managed 40 goals in 143 appearances during his time at Anfield, he began to fall out of favour under Arne Slot, and  was eventually sold last summer, following the arrivals of Hugo Ekitike and Alexander Isak.

According to reports in the Saudi Arabian press, quoted by the Liverpool Echo, Nunez is set to be on the move once again, after his current club accepted an offer worth £46 million from Turkish giants Fenerbahce.

It comes after Al-Hilal signed Karim Benzema, who is now expected to take Nunez's place in the starting XI.

Nunez is reportedly keen on a move, as he looks to build scoring momentum ahead of the World Cup.

The clubs have until 6th February, when the Saudi window shuts, to finalise a deal.

Former Champions League winning club in talks to sign Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain

Free agent Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain appears set to finally make his return to elite level football, following reports today that the former Arsenal and Liverpool man could join a major European side.

The English midfielder has been out of work, and training with Arteta's Arsenal, since terminating his contract with Besiktas in the summer.

While the 32-year-old's career may have somewhat derailed in recent years, following an injury plagued conclusion to his Anfield career, Oxlade-Chamberlain is still one of the most experienced players of his generation.

Scottish giants Celtic clearly still see the player's value, as they have entered talks to sign him this week.
