Agaton remains stationary

Tropical Depression Agaton remains almost stationary over Llorente, Samar, state weather bureau PAGASA said.

The cyclone pack winds of 45 kph and gusts of 75 kph.

"Due to the combined effects of land interaction, increasing vertical wind shear, and the effects of the upper-level outflow of Typhoon Basyang, this tropical depression is forecast to deteriorate into a remnant low within the next
24 hours," PAGASA said.

Search for survivors in provinces hit by landslides

Rescuers hampered by mud and rain searched Tuesday for survivors of landslides that smashed into villages in the central Philippines, as the death toll from Tropical Depression Agaton (international name Megi) rose to 28. 

More than 17,000 people fled their homes as the storm pummelled the disaster-prone region in recent days, flooding houses, severing roads and knocking out power.

Typhoon Basyang joins 'Agaton' inside PAR

Cyclone Malakas, now intensified to typhoon status, entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility Tuesday morning and was named Basyang, forecasters said.

This means there are two cyclones inside the country’s jurisdiction, one of which is Tropical Depression Agaton.

As of 10 a.m., the Basyang was about 1,435 kilometers east of Southern Luzon and heading north northwest at 20 kph, according to state weather bureau PAGASA. — Philstar.com/Gaea Katreena Cabico

Tropical Depression Agaton remained almost stationary over San Pablo Bay, state weather bureau PAGASA said.

At 1 p.m., Agaton was located over the coastal waters of Marabut, Samar with winds of 45 kph and gusts of 60 kph.

PAGASA said Agaton is forecast to remain a tropical depression and may further weaken into a remnant low by Wednesday.

Agaton slightly weakens, remains stationary

Tropical Depression Agaton slightly weakens as it remains stationary over San Pablo Bay.

At 10 a.m., Agaton was located over the coastal waters of Tanauan, Leyte with winds of 45 kph and gustiness of 60 kph.

State weather bureau PAGASA says Agaton is is forecast to slowly loop in the vicinity of northeastern portion of Leyte and the southern portions of Samar and Eastern Samar before emerging over the Philippine Sea by Tuesday evening.

Injury and death reports from Agaton still pending confirmation: NDRRMC

One death, two injuries, and one missing person have been recorded amid the onslaught of Tropical Depression Agaton, but these figures have yet to be validated and confirmed, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said Monday morning. 

According to the NDRRMC's latest situation report on the damages caused by Agaton, a total of 195 flooding incidents were recorded in the Bicol Region, Western, Eastern, and Central Visayas, Northern Mindanao, Davao Region, Soccsksargen, CARAGA, BARMM.

As a result, 86,515 families or 136,390 were listed as being affected by Agaton after the residents of 201 barangays had to be served in and out of just 71 evacuation centers.  —  Philstar.com/Franco Luna
