In the past 24 hours as of 5 a.m. Sunday, Phivolcs has recorded the following:

  • Alert level 2 is maintained over Mayon 
  • Five rockfall events 
  • Mayon Volcano's daily sulfur dioxide emissions (SO2) reached 692 tons per day on Saturday, Dec. 9, 2023. 
  •  The volcano's emissions are moderate, display west-southwest drift 
  • Mayon Volcano's edifice is showing signs of short-term inflation
Mayon Bulletin: December 9

In the past 24 hours as of 5 a.m. Saturday, Phivolcs has recorded the following:

  • Alert level 2 is maintained over Mayon
  • Three volcanic earthquakes
  • The volcano's emissions are 100 meters tall (moderate), display  northwest, west-northwest, and west-southwest drift
  • Inflation of the edifice
Phivolcs lowers Mayon Volcano status to Alert Level 2

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) has officially lowered the alert status of Mayon Volcano to Level 2 in response to a decline in overall volcanic activity.

“Phivolcs is lowering the Alert Level of Mayon Volcano from Alert Level 3 (tendency towards a hazardous eruption) to Alert Level 2 (moderate level of unrest),” it said in its 8 a.m. bulletin.

In the past 24 hours as of 5 a.m. Wednesday, Phivolcs has recorded the following:

  • Alert level 3 is maintained over Mayon.
  • Slow effusion of lava flow from the crater to lengths of 3.4 kilometers, 2.8 kilometers, and 1.1 kilometers along Bonga, Mi-isi, and Basud Gullies, respectively. 
  • Lava collapse up to 4 kilometers from the crater. One volcanic earthquake. 
  •  Mayon Volcano's daily sulfur dioxide emissions (SO2) reached 1,453 tons per day on Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2023. 
  • The volcano's emissions are 200 meters tall (moderate), display west-northwest drift. 
  • Mayon Volcano's edifice is showing signs of short-term inflation.

  • Alert level 3 is maintained over Mayon.
  • Slow effusion of lava flow from the crater to lengths of 3.4 kilometers, 2.8 km and 1.1 km along Bonga, Mi-isi, and Basud Gullies, respectively, and lava collapse up to 4 km from the crater

  • 1  volcanic earthquakes + 1 Rockfall events

  • Mayon Volcano's daily sulfur dioxide emissions (SO2) reached 1279 tonnes / day (Dec. 2, 2023)

  • The volcano's emissions are moderate and display west-southwest drift
