Five dead as 'Egay' ravages northern Philippines

At least five people were killed and over 26,000 were displaced after Typhoon Egay (international name: Doksuri) lashed the northern Philippines, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council reported on Thursday.

LIST: Canceled flights for July 27 due to bad weather

Airport authorities announced the cancellation of select flights scheduled for Thursday in response to the prevailing inclement weather conditions.

PAGASA reported on Thursday that Typhoon Egay has exited the Philippine area of responsibility but the cyclone will continue to bring heavy rain and strong wind in several areas in the country, especially in northern Luzon.

Typhoon Egay exits PAR

PAGASA says Typhoon Egay has already exited the Philippine area of responsibility while maintaining its strength.

In its 11 a.m. cyclone bulleting, Egay was found 255 kilometers west of Itbayat, Batanes.

Moving north northwestward at 15 kilometers per hour, it has peak sustained winds of 150 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 185 kph.

Tropical cyclone warning signals remain hoisted in several areas in Luzon.

'Egay' continues to weaken ahead of exit from PAR

 Typhoon Egay (international name: Doksuri) weakened further as it moved away from the Philippines Thursday morning, but the cyclone will continue to bring heavy rain and strong winds in northern Luzon. 

PAGASA said in its 5 a.m. bulletin that Egay was last spotted 195 kilometers west of Basco in Batanes, with peak winds of 150 kph near the center and gusts of up to 185 kph. It was heading northwest at 15 kph. — Gaea Katreena Cabico

Typhoon Egay (international name: Doksuri) maintained its strength as it headed toward Taiwan, state weather bureau PAGASA said Wednesday afternoon. 

Egay was last spotted 70 kilometers west northwest of Calayan in Cagayan with maximum sustained winds of 175 kph near the center and gusts of up to 240 kph. It was moving northwest at 10 kph. — Gaea Katreena Cabico

PAGASA says Typhoon Egay continues to keep its strength while moving northwestward.

In its 5 p.m. cyclone bulleting, Egay was seen 70 kilometers west northwest of Calayan, Cagayan.

Moving northwest at 10 kilometers per hour, it has maximum sustained winds of 175 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 240 kph.

Ilocos Norte declares state of calamity in the aftermath of 'Egay'

The Province of Ilocos Norte has declared a state of calamity in response to the extensive damages to properties, crops and livelihoods caused by Typhoon Egay.

"As of the latest update at 2:00 p.m. today, several municipalities, including Burgos, Bangui, Dumalneg, Pagudpud, Vintar, Adams, Pasuquin, and Bacarra, are still facing the brunt of the typhoon, as they are currently under Signal No. 4. Meanwhile, the rest of the province is also experiencing significant effects under Signal No. 3," the provincial government says on Facebook.

"Efforts to assess the full extent of the damage and provide necessary aid and relief to affected communities are underway. The Provincial Government of Ilocos Norte and national government agencies are working tirelessly to restore essential services, address immediate needs, and provide support to those affected by the disaster," it adds.
