'Julian' weakens into typhoon as it continues moving toward Taiwan

Tropical cyclone Julian (international name: Krathon) has weakened into a typhoon as it continues its path toward Taiwan, state weather bureau PAGASA reported on Wednesday, October 2.

As of 4 a.m., Julian was spotted 280 kilometers west-northwest of Itbayat, Batanes, now outside the Philippine area of responsibility.

Super Typhoon Julian further intensifies, may reenter PAR

Super Typhoon Julian (international name: Krathon) has slightly gained strength by midday on Tuesday, October 1.

While it is already outside the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR), it is likely to reenter the zone tomorrow, according to state weather bureau PAGASA.

'Julian' now a super typhoon

Tropical cyclone Julian (international name: Krathon) has intensified into a super typhoon early Tuesday morning, bringing powerful winds and heavy rains to northern Luzon.

As of 4 a.m., PAGASA said that Julian was located 205 kilometers west of Itbayat, Batanes.

Moving slowly west-northwest, it was carrying peak winds of 185 kilometers per hour (kph) near its center, with gustiness reaching 230 kph.

The state weather bureau raised tropical cyclone wind signals over the following areas.

'Julian' moves away toward PAR boundary

Typhoon Julian is now moving away from Batanes toward the northwestern boundary of the Philippine area of responsibility, the state weather bureau PAGASA said.

At 4 p.m., Julian's center of the eye was estimated based on all available data 95 km West Southwest of Itbayat, Batanes (20.5°North, 121.0°East).

It packs maximum sustained winds of 175 kilometer per hour near the center, gustiness of up to 215 kph, and central pressure of 940 hPa.

In its 7 a.m. tropical cyclone bulletin, PAGASA said Julian packs maximum sustained winds of 175 kilometer per hour near the center, gustiness of up to 215 kph, and central pressure of 940 hPa.

Violent winds over Babuyan Islands due to 'Julian'

 The state weather bureau PAGASA said Batanes and northeastern Babuyan islands are now experiencing violent winds as Typhoon Julian continues to move over the Balintang channel.

As of 4 a.m., the center of the eye of the typhoon was estimated based on all available data over the coastal waters of Balintang Island, Calayan, Cagayan (19.9°North, 122.2°East).

It packs maximum sustained winds of 155 kilometer per hour near the center, gustiness of up to 190 kph, and central pressure of 950 hPa.

Signal No. 3 up over 2 areas as Typhoon Julian keeps strength

State weather bureau PAGASA has hoisted Signal Number 3 over two areas in northern Luzon as Typhoon Julian (international name: Krathon) maintained its strength while moving over the Philippine Sea.

As of 4 p.m. on Sunday, September 29, PAGASA said that Julian was located 235 kilometers east of Calayan, Cagayan.
