'Leon' weakens into severe tropical storm as it exits PAR

Cyclone Leon (international name: Kong-Rey) has downgraded to a severe tropical storm as it moved out of the Philippine area of responsibility.

As of 4 a.m. on Friday, November 1, PAGASA said Leon was spotted 550 kilometers north-northwest of Itbayat, Batanes.

Batanes downgraded to Signal No. 2 as 'Leon' makes landfall in Taiwan

State weather bureau PAGASA has further downgraded the Batanes to Wind Signal No. 2 at most, as Typhoon Leon (international name: Kong-Rey) made landfall in Southeastern Taiwan on Thursday, October 31.

As of 4 p.m., PAGASA located Leon’s eye approximately 320 kilometers north northwest of Itbayat, Batanes, which is also within the vicinity of Chiayi County, Taiwan.

'Leon' weakens into typhoon as it approaches Taiwan

Cyclone Leon has weakened from a super typhoon to a typhoon, state weather bureau PAGASA said on Thursday, October 31. 

Based on its latest cyclone bulletin, Leon has maximum sustained winds of 175 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 215 kph.

Batanes has been downgraded to Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 4 as Super Typhoon Leon (international name: Kong-Rey) advances northwestward near Batanes.

As of 7 a.m. on Thursday, October 31, PAGASA reported that Leon was spotted 110 kilometers north-northeast of Itbayat, Batanes.

Walang Pasok: Class suspensions for October 31 due to 'Leon'

Some local government units have announced the suspension of classes on Thursday, October 31, due to the Super Typhoon Leon (international name: Kong Rey).and to support ongoing recovery efforts following the devastation caused by Severe Tropical Storm Kristine (international name: Trami).

Signal No. 5 still hoisted in parts of Batanes due to Super Typhoon Leon

 Parts of Batanes remain under Signal No. 5 as Super Typhoon Leon (international name: Kong-Rey) continues to severely impact the northernmost areas of Luzon.

According to PAGASA’s 5 a.m. bulletin on Thursday, October 31, Leon’s eye was located approximately 100 kilometers east-northeast of Itbayat, Batanes, packing maximum sustained winds of 195 kilometers per hour (kph) and gusts reaching up to 240 kph.

Signal No. 4 raised over Batanes as 'Leon' approaches

State weather bureau PAGASA hoisted Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal  No. 4 over Batanes as Super Typhoon Leon closes in on the province on Wednesday, October 30.

Leon has maximum sustained winds of up to 185 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center, and gustiness of up to 230 kph. The super typhoon is moving northwestward at 20 kph.

State weather bureau PAGASA has raised Signal No. 4 over Batanes as Super Typhoon Leon approaches the province on Wednesday, October 30.

As of 2 p.m., Leon’s eye was located 310 kilometers east of Calayan, Cagayan, moving northwestward at 15 kilometers per hour (kph).

Signal No. 3 up over Batanes, Babuyan Islands as 'Leon' strengthens

Signal No. 3 has been raised over Batanes and the eastern portion of Babuyan Islands as Typhoon Leon continued to intensify in the Philippine Sea.

As of 4 a.m. on Wednesday, October 30, PAGASA said that Leo was found 395 kilometers east of Calayan, Cagayan.
