‘Nika’ crawling out of PAR; ‘Ofel’ expected to bring rains

Severe Tropical Storm Nika (international name: Toraji) is expected to weaken as it moves northwestward across the West Philippine Sea on Tuesday, November 12, state weather bureau PAGASA said. 

In its 11 a.m. bulletin on Tuesday, November 12, PAGASA said that NIka is estimated at 225 kilometers west northwest of Laoag City, Ilocos Norte, or 315 kilometers West of Calayan, Cagayan.

'Nika' weakens as new threat 'Ofel' enters PAR

Just as Severe Tropical Storm Nika (international name: Toraji) begins to weaken over the West Philippine Sea, a new weather disturbance entered the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) early Tuesday, November 12.

As of 4 a.m., PAGASA said Nika was spotted 185 kilometers west of Laoag City, Ilocos Norte, with peak winds of 95 kilometers per hour kilometers per hour near the center and gusts of up to 115 kph. The storm is moving northwest at a speed of 30 kph, pushing storm-force winds extending up to 320 km from its center.

Typhoon Nika batters Northern Luzon

Typhoon Nika continues to move across the Cordillera Administrative Region, bringing destructive winds and heavy rainfall to Northern Luzon.

As of 4 p.m. Monday, the typhoon's center was located in the vicinity of Besao, Mountain Province, PAGASA reported.

The typhoon is packing maximum sustained winds of 120 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 200 kph, moving west-northwestward at 25 kph.

Landfall

Typhoon Nika has made a landfall in Dilasag, Aurora at midday on Monday, and is set to move across Luzon.

Nika now has maximum sustained winds of 130 kilometers per hour (kph) and gustiness of up to 180 kph.

Early exit seen for Nika

In PAGASA's 8 a.m. bulletin, the weather bureau forecasts that while the typhoon intensified right before it hits land on Monday morning, it has calculated its exit from the Philippine area of responsibility on Tuesday (Nov 12) instead of Thursday (Nov 14).

Nearing landfall in Luzon

Typhoon Nika (international name: Toraji) has grew in wind speed and is expected to make landfall over Isabela or northern Aurora on Monday, November 11.

As 4:00 a.m., state weather bureau PAGASA located the center of Typhoon Nika at 100 kilometers east southeast of Casiguran, Aurora with maximum sustained winds of 120 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center, gustiness of up to 150 kph.

Signal No. 3 up over Isabela, Aurora as 'Nika' slows down

PAGASA raised Signal No. 3 over parts of Isabela and Aurora as Severe Tropical Storm Nika (international name: Toraji) slightly decelerated while moving over the Philippine Sea on Sunday evening, November 10.

As of 7 p.m., Nika was spotted 330 kilometers east of Baler, Aurora.

Severe Tropical Storm Nika (international name: Toraji) has continued to intensify and is expected to reach typhoon strength before making landfall in the coming hours.

As of 4 p.m. on Sunday, November 10, PAGASA said Nika was located 380 kilometers east of Infanta, Quezon.
